The History & Background of Hungarian Ipriflavone
Ipriflavone falls into the large group of Isoflavonoids. Ipriflavone has used today as a bone building agent is a synthetic Isoflavone derivative. It was first synthesized in Hungary by Doctor Laszlo Feuer while researching flavonoids as essential growth factors in animals. Soon after its synthesis Ipriflavone was used in clinical testing.
The substance was reportedly first used in veterinarian fodder and experimented with as agent for enhancing endurance in animals. It was also investigated as a potential anti-anginal agent and was seen to influence the Mitochrondrial energetics in a positive manner, with Anoxygen sparing effect. Early on it was seen that Ipriflavone administration led to increases in the skeletal calcium of sheep, rats and chickens. Through the 1970’s experiments were conducted using Ipriflavone to enhance bone health in animals. This preliminary work was followed by dozens of clinical studies in Hungary, Japan and Italy using Ipriflavone with humans. Ipriflavone is registered as a prescription treatment for osteoporosis in various countries including Japan and Argentina.
Use in Supplements
Ipriflavone also slows bone loss in women whose ovaries have been removed, although it does not appear to prevent acute bone loss immediately following Ovariectomy. Further studies in this area have not obtained the same conclusions, except under very specific conditions including younger age and active bone loss. Therefore, the presence of osteoporosis alone does not appear to be sufficient for obtaining good results, even with calcium supplementation.
The mechanisms of Ipriflavone activity are not understood. Studies have indicated that:
- It inhibits the breakdown of bone.
- Ipriflavone inhibits bone resorption (the breakdown and recycling of bone tissue).
- Ipriflavone may stimulate bone formation.
In contrast, one large study of postmenopausal women with slight osteoporosis found no significant bone density changes between the group taking calcium supplements alone and those taking calcium plus Ipriflavone.

Potential Side Effects of Hungarian Ipriflavone
Since ipriflavone does not have estrogenic activity, it may be appropriate for treating bone loss in men, particularly in those with prostate cancer who are receiving therapies that reduce androgen (masculinizing hormone) levels.
Are there any issues taking Razor’s Edge or any other Nootropics during a prohormone cycle?
- The only nootropic you want to be a little careful with while you are on a PH cycle would be Adrafinil since it is mildly stressful on the liver. Besides that, there shouldn’t be any issues at all when using nootropics during a PH cycle.
How much should be taken? Are there any side effects?
- The recommended serving size of 5-methyl-7-methoxy-isoflavone so far is anywhere from 400mg to 800mg taken in a split dosage twice throughout the day (200mg - 400mg twice daily). Ipriflavone is recommended to be taken in the range of 250mg to 1250mg per day in divided doses.
Studies of Hungarian Ipriflavone
Ipriflavone (IP), also called ipraflavone, is a mass produced synthetic derivative of genistein (genistin) or daidzein. Genistein and daidzein are unique plant compounds called isoflavones, which are primarily found in soy products. Isoflavones belong to a larger category known as flavonoids, which are natural plant components that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, and anticancer properties. Although most isoflavones are classified as plant estrogens (phytoestrogens), Ipriflavone does not have estrogenic activity, and does not activate any estrogen receptors in the body. However, it may prevent or treat bone loss—osteoporosis—associated with menopause (the cessation of menstruation) and aging.
